School

This school year is pretty great so far. I'm still at the same school, which is really small, so there are only 13 kids. We don't switch classes, either, because a) we don't have to, and b) there is only one classroom anyway. Our classroom is brand-new and very awesome. We are the first class to use it. It is the only classroom upstairs, so that is very nice because everyone leaves us alone. I also like it because there are only 2 grades (7th & 8th [last year there was 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, AND 8th all together!]) and we don't have to share all the stuff with 4th graders. That really made me mad last year because they were always making things messy and I was like the only person who cleaned stuff up (that is still kind of true, but it's not as bad).

Our classroom also has a Promethean Board, which is like a SmartBoard, only better (I don't know if this is really true because I've never used a SmartBoard, but I believe it because the Promethean Board is pretty cool). The teachers decided to get one since you don't really need all the Montessori materials for Jr. High (Montessori materials are super expensive). It is basically a super fancy projector. That's nice because every time they want to show us something, they don't have to get the projector out because the Board is always set up. (Does that make any sense?)

The other new thing is that we have classroom committees--the Garden Committee, the Building & Grounds Committee, the Store Committee, and the Newspaper Committee. We had to write resumes and cover letters to apply for the committees like jobs. I got accepted to the Newspaper Committee, so now I am working with the other two Editors to start a school newspaper (which we have decided to name The Garden Imperial). Each committee has different responsibilities around the school & classroom, and each committee has certain classroom jobs like taking care of the computers & iPads, washing tables, straightening shelves etc.

I'm really sad that I only get to be with this awesome classroom and all these awesome people I know and love for one more year. I hate thinking about high school. But I must. The world is apparently not a wish granting factory. But, it is really awesome right now, so everything is Okay for the moment.

I've been reading a lot of YA fiction lately. I'll probably get back to some of the classics soon, but I really like reading YA fiction because it makes me excited to be a young adult in this time and place. Every year I seem to be more excited about the fact that I am a person, and I am sure that excitedness may decrease a bit next year when I have a buttload of homework and not enough sleep, but right now, I am excited that I get to be a person and marvel at the majesty of creation and whatnot. I quite like being a person in this time and place.

The Last Two Weeks

Seriously, the last two weeks have seriously been (some of) the best of my life, seriously. Possibly the best ever, but I'm not going to say anything conclusive because my life isn't over yet. I've only been alive, like,  13.6 years.

It all started on Thursday of last week. The night before, all cozy in my room, I had finished the book Sense and Sensibility, and the next day, we left from school at 9:30 to see it in play-from. It was so good! It was really funny and well-arranged. It was dramatic and unique, but accurate to the book, too. We got back to school at like 1:30 and so we got to eat lunch during social studies.

The next day, Friday, we had early dismissal at 1:00. That day, some friends of mine from school and I were going to go to a trivia night for 6th-8th graders, but we couldn't get enough people for a team of 8. I was really disappointed because I really had wanted to go, so I decided, hey, we have early dismissal that day, why not have our own game night? So I did. It wasn't game night, but it was so FUN! We played New! Super Mario Bros. Wii and made fun of Luigi for being so bad at game as he ground-pounded into everyone and threw shells at us, and also took ALL THE POWERUPS. We also played Blokus and took the dog for a walk, and climbed trees and ran in the park. We went to the playground and it was just so fun! We also ate pizza and ERMAHGERD it was just so awesome and fun.

That weekend was 3 days long because we had Monday off for Presidents Day, when I happily slept in and hung around the house.

Tuesday and Wednesday were just normal school days, except I was uber happy because my group got to get math lessons with Mr. S, whom I really like because he's nice and fun. Wednesday we had civics with Mr. G. (whom I also adore) and Mr. S. Art class on Wednesday was okay, but I'm still really not happy with it. Actually, I'm really mad with it. But I'm not going to talk about how much I hate art class now that Ms. Bridgett isn't our teacher anymore because I'm supposed to be talking about my best week ever, right? Okay, right.

But now, the best part.

My friend Elzabeth calls me Wednesday night, screaming, "OMIGODOMIGODOMIGOD WE DON'T HAVE SCHOOL TOMORROW IT'S CANCELLED OMIGOD SNOW OMIGOD SNOW DAY SNOW DAY!!!" (Mind you, she's loud on the phone when she's not screaming.)

So the next day I get to sleep in because it's a snow day. Only, the snow hasn't started yet when I wake up. But man, once it started at like 10:30, it snowed. I took a picture out the window every couple hours that day and was going to put it on here, but Apple hates me. We didn't go anywhere that day because we didn't want to die. But...

Today I got to go sledding for the first time in like 3 years because school was (mercifully) cancelled today, too. I went to Reservoir Park with the same group of friends from school, Elzabeth, K and his brother J. We invited Liam, too, but he was going to Art Hill with his family.

Man, it was AWESOME. The only bad part was when Elzabeth and I went down together on her pink sled and hit a manhole cover (that was in the middle of the hill, for some reason). My butt still hurts, and the sled... the sled. The sled was in shards, thankfully it was just a cheap one. Other than that, the best part was the WHOLE THING. It was so fun.

This is us sledding.

It was the best day ever. Besides, you know, those two weeks.

Lately

Lately I've been at school. I think it's off to a greeeeaat start. The new building is awesome. Have I written about this? The 7th and 8th grade Jr. High room is awesome. The only thing is we have to share it with aftercare and the thing about that is I'll just say sometimes it's not the neatest when we get there in the morning. One of my favorite things is when we get to school in the moring we get to start in our Jr. High room to unpack and fill out our work plans and such. My fun job is I get to write the work plan on the white board. It's fun to write on the white board.

Lately I am obsessed I guess you could say with youtube I guess. Mostly vlogbrothers (I'm mostly through 2009) and vihart. This means hexaflexagons (1), hexaflexagons (2), hexaflexagons (3). Awesome. Nerdy. You NEED to watch these videos. And vlogbrothers too, don't forget them.

Lately I fill my mind with awesomeness in general. I'm still new to and blown away by the amazingness and awesomeness and kindness of nerdfighteria. Best wishes!

Bizzy

I'm proud to say that I'm almost genuinely busy. I've never really meant the true meaning before, and I'm sure I'll be thinking the same thing in High School when I have about three more hours of homework than I do now, have a million clubs, and still want to sleep sometimes.

But I'm happy I'm doing stuff besides school. Piano, youth group, and hopefully soon acapella if that ever gets organized. I liked doing that last year.

I'm excited for art class to maybe start soon. I really hope they make the obvious descion. I really hope they actually choose a teacher.

This is much funner than homework. Even though it is homework. Mrs. W. said I could do this instead of journal. It seems less like an assigned thing that way. It's much faster than writing too.

I really like all my teachers. I always have. There was only one year (second grade) I had a really bad teacher. I hope she's not still teaching becaue she slapped kids and called them stupid, told them to shut up, called them retarded, and even pushed a kid down the stairs once. Uhh. I'm so glad my teachers aren't like that. They're so nice!

I like Ms. A. a lot. And Ms. K, and Ms. W, and all of them! I like it because I feel like I'm being pushed harder already. Which is a really good thing. Instead of the yeah, your kid is learning montessori grades (which I have nothing against for elementary classes), they're doing actual letter grades and percents this year. I think that's really good for me, to see it in numbers and precents instead of 'yes, you did your best' or 'yeah you tried' check marks. But smiley faces and checks and good jobs are still happily accepted and devoured, just so you know.

But yeah.

I'm not sure what to say next. How about some jokes. I've got some good ones. In my opinion anyway. You will most likely think they're stupid.

What do you get when you drop a piano down a mine shaft?
A flat miner.

When do you get when you drop a piano over a military base?
A flat major.

What kind of pants do the Mario brothers wear?
denimdenimdenim.

Why can't Hellen Keller drive?
Because she's DEAD!

What do you get when you throw a grenade in a French bathroom?
Linoleum Blownapart.

What did one snowman say to the other?
Ahh, smells like carrots.

What's blackandwhiteandblackandwhiteandblackandwhiteandblackandwhite?
A penguin rolling down a hill.

What's black and white laughing?
The little penguin who pushed him.

Why did the monkey fall out of the tree?
Because he was DEAD!

Why did the second monkey fall out of the tree?
He was laughing at the first monkey.

Why did the third monkey fall out of the tree?
Peer pressure.

Okay that's enough. For now.

Lots of Stuff

It's the end of the summer. Already. Wha? I'm not so sure how that happened or how I feel about that.

I've been very kinda busy lately. I really do keep meaning to put stuff on here, promise. The first thing I have been meaning to put on here is our trip to Minnesota. It was really awesome. We stayed at my aunt and uncle's house. The weather couldn't have been perfecter. Boating and tubing on the Mississippi & St. Croix rivers was quite nice. The water was really clean and there wasn't much of a current. There was a nice little island with sand and cool rocks where we stopped for awhile. After leaving their house, we stopped at grandma Pat's in Wisconsin and stayed a few days there. The fun thing about that was that we went to Circus World, the awesomest circus I have ever been to. It's got a really great circus and also several museumy things, the coolest being the circus wagon one. It has like 70 old and really beautiful circus wagons from when there were like travelling circuses and stuff.
Something you may not know is that my family lived in Minnesota for like three years. It was very nice to see old friends and tour the neighborhood where we used to live.

The day after we got home we decided that it would be a good idea to move my bedroom on the second floor to the basement. This turned out to be a really good idea and it is quite awesome now. Like, really. Awesome. It was a lot of work though.

Okay, so the day that we moved my room my aunt and cousin came to our house and spent the night and the next day I went back with my aunt to have a very nice weekend with her.

AND THEN when I got back I did more work on my new room.

AND THEN this week there were some awesome things at school, although we still havent gotten back to school yet, that starts on monday. The first one was an open house thing where we got to meet our new teachers and that was very awesome and it got me very excited to go to school becaue the classroom is really awesome and I think I am really going to like my new teacher. My teachers this year are, well, here's the thing, it's very difficult to explain things somethimes when you're using pseudonyms becasue then if people reading actually know the person to whom you are referring things might become rather confusing and I'm kind of starting to really dislike using pseudonyms so here. Sometimes I'm going to use them, sometimes not, sometimes I'll use an initial. If you have a pseudonym on here you likely know who you are anyway to I will probably keep using that, for instance Bree, Fiona, Abeliene. Okay? Okay. Okay, now. Ms. Eileen and Ms. Amy are my teachers this year. I'm still not totally sure how all of this is going to work out because I think Mr. Rouse is doing social studies and yeah. I'm really excite for math, which Ms. Amy is teaching so I hope I don't miss Mr. Rouse too much because he used to be my math teacher and I really liked him.

So the next day after that there was a ribbon cutting ceremony thing at the awesome new building of our school since it's new and awesome. That was fun.

But yeah. This summer was filled with a lot of awesome and I'm sad to see it go so soon.

But yeah. I'm also glad school is staring monday because I think that if this summer was much longer I would get very bored very fast.

Definitons of Summer

sum-mer [suhm-er]
noun
1.
the season between spring and autumn, in the Northern Hemisphere from the summer solstice to the autumnal equinox, and in the Southern Hemisphere from the winter solstice to the vernal equinox.
2.
the period comprising the months of June, July, and August in the U.S., and from the middle of May to the middle of August in Great Britain.
3.
a period of hot, usually sunny weather
Summer means that there are frequent trips to everywhere: grandma's, the pool, the store, the swingset, the freezer (for ice cream)...
Summer means the Virginia Barbecue, which it not really a barbecue, it's more of a fair. There are rides, vendors of "antiques," jewelry, you name it and they probably have it. There's typical carnival food: corn dogs (mmm), funnel cake, curly fries, and lemon shake-ups. I'm not really sure if the lemon shake-ups are specific to the VBBQ, but they are awesome ($$)!
Summer means there are also frequent sleepovers and friends come over often. And family, and cousins (which I happen to have a lot of). And there are weddings and graduations and sometimes funerals (although those aren't specific to summer).
Our family gets to go to church and worship God together.
And summer can be hot.
It's not that miserably hot here yet, thankfully. It has been nice enough to be outside in the evenings and run through sprinklers and the bugs aren't that bad either. We can still go on bike rides and not shrivel up. The walk from car to pool isn't miserable yet. And while I keep thinking how it is going to get so hot, I enjoy every moment of right now: summer.
Summer is when things happen. Best friends move away and everyone makes plans for next year: school. I'm blessed enough to not have to move, or to not have to switch schools again before high school.
Babies are born and, for the most part, everything is happy.

And that also means that I sometimes don't get a chance to post anything here. Sorry. I'm trying, and sometimes I even think of things that would be really good to put on here, but just don't have the time. It can be busy, and God is busy too;
God is good, and He is still at work in the summer.

Whewee

Wow, I can't believe that it is almost summer already!! Sorry I rally haven't been posting much, I guess you could say that I've been busy.

Busy going places and finishing up 6th grade. Last weekend we went to the farm for mother's day (btw happy mother's day) and it was a really good time. We got to have strawberries!!! They were SO GOOOOD!!! I forgot what a real strawberry tasted like.

On the way home from that, Cassie said something really funny. "Weeell, Jesus can not tell people things because he does not have an ipod, inbestead he does not have a phone either." It was really cute.

Now she's been saying that she wants a brother. Mom said no. Cassie asked " Welll, can I have a sister?"

"You already have two sisters."

"Yeah, well, a different one. Can we buy one?"

"No, you can't just buy  a sister or brother, the have to be born."

"Well, we could go to the park and take one!"

Better than Cable

I can't remember if I've said this here yet, but I often say that life at my school is better than cable. Us kids are hilarious.

Today we were washing hands in the kitchen before lunch, like we always do. One of the teachers is heating up his lunch. David is standing behind me and I hear him say, "Hey everyone, Mr. John told me his mom calls him Johnny boy."

Mr John replies playfully, "Hey, man, you said you wouldn't tell them."

"Okay, Johnny boy."

20 Seconds of Glory

(I just remembered that i hadn't posted this yet. [Or maybe i did. I don't remember. I'll just post it again anyway.] Sorry, it's been a LONG time since this happened. It was last school year in the spring I think. Totally awesome.)

Well, maybe more like 30.

Ya know how I told you our school was going to a Cardinals game and singing Take Me Out to the Ball Game?  It was so totally fantastical!  I can't even express in words how cool it was, really.  It is kinda funny because Mr. Teacher kinda directs like he's directing an orchestra instead of preschoolers and kindergartners, and 1-3rd graders with a few 4,5, and 6th graders sprinkled in there.  Really, he does.

Cooking

On Friday at school we cooked our own lunch! Apparently our new PE teacher is also a chef... a really healthy chef.  Healthy as in no meat and veggie everything!

I normally stick to broccoli and peas and corn and that sort of stuff. Not really a big fan of beans or squash or tomatoes, especially not all nixed together! But I tried something new and I'm glad I did even though I didn't particularly care for it.

At least it was fun.  And dessert was good!

School

I have the same teachers as last year but we moved to a new room to accommodate our now larger class.  Homework- reading and writing with the addition of Khan Academy, a math website.  Out classroom is HOT but not as hot as outside!

I'm happy because we don't have to share our bathroom with the little kids! It's so much cleaner! And it doesn't smell horrible (yet).

We have a new PE teacher whose friend goes to my church and she is really nice (both of them).

And I LOVE MY ART TEACHER!!!

Highlights of Summer

June: I made a new blog, I left for a while, it was sad.
July: I went to vacation bible school by my grandma's house, my blog reached it's 100th post, I turned 12!, we played bananagrams.

August: it got HOTTER, it finally rained.

Now summer has 5 days remaining until school starts. So sad.

Last Day of School!

Today was [finally] our last day of school!

We [us; our school] had a big picnic in Valley Grove Park today!  [Sorry, I always make these pseudonyms and then I try to remember them and then I get all stressed out because it's probably not the same every time.  On the flip side, you all probably know what I'm talking about anyway.]  It was very fun.

Mr. Teacher allowed us to wear our T-Shirts that we made with Mrs. W!  That was nice that we didn't have to wear uniform on the last day.

So we played around on the playground and with balls and whatnot, then had to play silly games.

For lunch I had carrots, quesodilla, almonds, grapes, oreos, and the end-of-the-school-year-cookie-that-you-usually-receive-from-your-teacher.

After some kids had been dismissed, their parents were just handing around and they decided to drench all of the teachers with freezing water.  It was so funny!  After Dorothy got Mr. Teacher, Mr. Teacher mumbles:  they are in so much trouble next year.

It's been a good day so far.  I am so tired though.

Something that makes me want a Facebook account [so I could post this on the JOY FM Facebook page] just for this:

There is this christian radio station that I always listen to, and when I go up to my room I always turn it on.  I turn it on:

Ooo, I love the way you hold me
By your side I'll always be
Ya take each and every day
Make it special in some way
I love the way you hold me
In your arms I'll always be
Oh I love the way you hold me

It just reminded me that no matter how annoying sisters are or how long the day has been, He is always holding me and He's never letting go.

I needed that.

P.S.  The radio station is 99.1 in St. Louis.

Summer!

I can't believe that summer is almost here!  Although, it didn't really feel like it today.  Rainy, wet, cold.  Ugh.

I'm so excited for school to be out.  To not have homework.  To swim every day.  Ah.

My Weekend

It was a fantastic one.

Starting on Friday:

Got home and started frantically packing because I had a sleepover birthday party.  I say frantically because my mom (incorrectly) told me that it was to be at 5 o'clock (it was really 5:30), and it was now 4:45.

Mrs. W, I'm going to use some of your pseudonyms, if it's okay.  Too late.

It was Bree's birthday and Fiona, Genevieve, and Felicity were there.

Before dinner, we went on kind of a scavenger hunt.  We split up into two teams; on my team was Fiona and Felictity, and Bree had her brother and Genevieve.

Each team had one side of the block.  We knocked on people's doors and politely asked if they would like to donate food to Operation Food Search.  Whichever team collected the most won, but then it was more than that; my team didn't win, but when you do something to help others your heart swells up and you get this lump in your throat that says, "this is right."

For dinner we had cheese fondue with bread, vegetables, crackers and cheese to dip into the cheese.  Afterwards there was chocolate cheesecake with strawberries on top.

After dinner, Zelda and Travis made us go up to the third floor while they hid candy on the 1st and 2nd floors.  Then, we had to find it in the dark; although the let us have flashlights.  It was so fun!

Saturday:

Went home from the sleepover.

There is a farmer's market in Grove Valley Park every Saturday, and my uncle sells strawberries from his farm there.  So my cousins were at our house.  It was fun, but they kinda made me tired.

For Girl Scouts we had archery in Timber Park and then afterwards we dropped out cat quilts that we made at the APA.  We had a look around.  It was so sad.  I cried.

Sunday:

Went to church.

Had people over for dinner.

Slept in my new bed.

Monday:

Kept thinking it was Tuesday.  Don't know why.

Went to school.

Came home.

Did homework.

Blogged quite extensively.

Ten on Tuesday: Things to be Thankful for

Well, things I am thankful for.

1) A warm or cold (depending) house with electricity and running water.

2) A good school with good teachers and good friends where you can go every day and know that you are in a safe environment where you don't have to work on the same thing everybody else is and it is okay if you are smart.

3) Food that will nourish your body and fill you up so that you can be productive in your work and not be all grouchy or tired.

4) Water and milk (and other things to drink) so that you can stay hydrated and so your body may properly function.

5) Clothes to wear so that even though Eve ate the apple and became ashamed, we may not have to suffer in such humility.

6) A warm, comfortable bed to sleep in so that in the morning you may be well-rested and able to carry our God's will.

7) Books to read that are entertaining and keep us busy, and sometimes teach us a lesson.

8) Friends and family who will always be there for us and provide for us, help us, teach us, care for us.

9) A Holy Book to study and learn so we can know what He requires of us and prepare us for His coming.

10) A savior who saves whoever believes and a God who forgives if we forgive and is faithful if we are.

Glad Tomorrow's Not Monday

Because I really wanna sleep in so bad.

Sorry, Mr.  Teacher, but I'm not ready for school yet.  Within good reason, because the weekend isn't over.

And I have Girl Scouts tomorrow, at Mrs. W's house, which I love.  We are having a badge ceremony and are going to plan the bridging ceremony for the people (me!!!) who are going to be Cadettes next year.

Now I'm going to bed.

GS Camping

This time I have pictures.

My daisy friend was Laney (not her real name...) .  She was so cute!

The beds.  I was next to Abigail and on the other side of me were the Bridget[t]s.

The shower house was next door.  But, if you use the shower house, you have to clean the shower house.

We stayed at Petite Chalet, which according to Genevieve means small castle in french.  I think that is hilarious for whatever reason.

The fake Indian names are pretty funny too.  Like, we stayed next to Tanda, Ahwenasa, and Kiamecia, all permanent tents.  Heh.

The daisies came out for the day but didn't stay the night.  We climbed up a 'mountain' on Pioneer Trail, elevation like 815 feet or something.  Poor daisies.  Then after that we went on a creek walk where most girls found interesting rocks and fossils, which of course had to be shared afterwards.  Molly found a wolf spider, so of course everyone had to crowd around and get their look at something that might bite them and really hurt. Bah, who cares about safety?

So then the daisies went home and there was an all-camp campfire.  Luckily, I got to stay behind with one of the Bridgets.  Phew.  And that was fun.

In the morning it was fantastic because nobody got up and stomped around and slammed doors or whispered so loud that you would be able to hear them with your fingers in your ears.  It was good.  Then we (the juniors, not brownies--that's against the rules) did archery.  Mrs.  Wissinger was happy with Cedarledge's equipment, I think.  They actually had a bow stringer, unlike Tuckaho who had a bucket with everything thrown in it.  Good.  Only thing was, the targets were SO easy to hit 'cause they were only like less than 15 feet (or something, I'm bad at judging distances) away.  But it was good.

And I had fun.  That's the important part, right???

PS  My science project got a blue ribbon!!!!

Three on Thursday (totally stole that title idea from Mrs. W... sorry!)

1)  I have an awesome pun.  Well, it's knot as awesome as it wood have been yesterday, but still.  May fourth be with you.   You have to say it aloud.I'm reading this book, The Phantom Tollbooth, which is chock-full of puns. The watchdog (he keeps track of time), the mountains of ignorance, the island of conclusions (you get there by jumping)... love it!

2)  We have a field trip tomorrow.  There is a naturalization ceremony at the courthouse downtown tomorrow, and my class gets to sing God Bless America and The Star Spangled Banner!  We get to dress up fancy!

3)  Girl Scout camping this weekend!  Getting better at packing, didn't bring ANYTHING extra except for extra socks.  All in one backpack.
The brownies and daisies are coming though, all energetic, bouncy, talkitive people.  Yay.
